PATRIZIA VOLPATO’S ADVICE FOR HOME LIGHTING THAT IS ARCHITECT-PROOF
The purchase of lamps and chandeliers is essential in every home and is an investment intended to last over time.
Once installed, the position of the ceiling or wall lights tends to remain fixed, influencing the style and atmosphere of the rooms and of specific areas of your home.
It therefore makes sense to design lighting concepts considering all of the variables related to light and style. The market offers endless possibilities between pendant lights, chandeliers and ceiling lamps, but how can we get the best possible result?
It’s not just a question of home decor, but also of efficiency.
Indeed, the lights inside a house can change the atmosphere, increase the warmth of the house and even lift the mood and productivity.
Here are some tips to choose the perfect chandelier.
CEILING CHANDELIERS AND DESIGN PENDANT LIGHTS: WHEN STYLE BECOMES A TREND
In a previous article we talked about the differences between the various home lighting systems and we saw how ceiling lights can create very different effects based on the number of light irradiation points, the length of the pendant, the type of light (warm or cold) and all of this contributes to denoting the character and atmosphere of the environment.
After years of rigorous design and clean lines, there is a general trend towards more versatile, comfortable and energising environments. The years of the pandemic and the various lockdowns have taught us to conceive spaces in a new way and to consider the various areas of the house as multifunctional environments. Comfort and versatility are now perceived as being priorities.
Hence the need to design bathrooms that may be smaller, but equipped like a spa, a technologically advanced living area, with communication tools and enchanting lighting, bedrooms that also become places to watch TV, read, get ready and not just to sleep.
Lighting becomes essential for harmonising environments, but also to welcome, embrace, excite and “add warmth“.
The colours become enchanting and range from shades that recall nature to the more lively ones such as magenta red – the pantone colour of 2023 – and, after so much black and white, grey and dove grey in all of their variants, the more lively colours are a beautiful new entry that gives joy and dynamism.
Even the lines become more sinuous and soft with a roundness that combines a fluid and lightweight design with technical efficiency and sustainability, in a mix of ancient and modern that plays on the concept of luxury and opulence, but always in the name of versatility.
Lighting therefore becomes a decisive element that completes and harmonises, becoming a focal point of the environment.
The linearity of modern furniture, for example, can be softened by the presence of a more vintage-style chandelier.
Let’s take a closer look at some ideas!
PENDANT CHANDELIERS: HOW TO CHOOSE THEM IN RELATION TO
THE ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY ARE USED
How can we choose the right pendant lamps for our home?
First of all, it should be remembered that there are different types of pendant lights and that the diffusion of light changes based on the number and type of light bulbs. The choice must be made considering the height of the ceiling and the size of the room, taking into consideration its main function: should it light up a worktop in the kitchen? A table? A stairwell? Or, is it the main lighting that will be combined by other light spots?
These questions serve to guide the choice towards the most suitable type of pendant light and the most functional light bulbs for its purpose. And then, of course, personal style and taste come into play.
But let’s look at some practical examples.
PENDANT CHANDELIERS FOR KITCHEN ISLAND OF WORKTOP
The kitchen island and worktop are places where direct light is needed for optimal visibility when we are cooking or using appliances. One of the most common mistakes is miscalculating the length of the pendant: too high up, there is a greater dispersion of light; too low, there is a risk to create an oppressive and uncomfortable space.
The correct height is on average between 70-80 cm above the worktop. Let’s take, for example, the modern pendant proposed by Patrizia Volpato in the Illusion collection – a pendant light with a minimal design with a metal structure and integrated LED, perfect for a kitchen with a contemporary style
TABLE CHANDELIER
Whether in the kitchen or lounge, the table area is a convivial area and a focal point of the environment.
The lighting fixture chosen as a table light must not obscure the view on the other side of the table and must be positioned in such a way as not to disturb the diners or, in any case, the people sitting at the table.
Both the classic chandelier and the pendant chandelier are suitable, the important thing is that they are installed so that the lighting is between 20 and 30 centimetres from the edge of the table at a height between 70 and 80 cm from the top of the table.
Stone collection offers different types of pendant chandeliers with a contemporary design that highlights the preciousness of its diffuser elements in hand-blown Murano glass by Venetian master glass-makers. The craftsmanship of the working process makes each element unique, so that the lighting fixture becomes a unique and inimitable piece.
The chandeliers from the Intrecci collection, instead, offer a more traditional style that recalls the classic chandelier of the Venetian tradition revisited in a modern key. The arms of these luxury Murano glass chandeliers are processed one by one by master glass-makers and are absolutely unique. The presence of crystal pendants adds preciousness to the lighting fixture.
INTERNAL STAIRCAISE LIGHTING
The stairway offers various lighting opportunities but, when the space is very wide, selecting a pendant light that follows the length of the staircase also becomes an interior design element of great impact.
The Crypto collection, Silver winner 2021 of the prestigious A’Design Award & Competition, is a wonderful example of how it is possible to enhance a staircase with style and elegance.
Furnish your home with style, thanks to the right pendant lamps. Choose intelligently and let yourself be inspired by the new forms of light designed by Patrizia Volpato.
