LIGHT WITHIN LUXURY HÔTELLERIE PATRIZIA VOLPATO LIGHTS UP THE W BUDAPEST HOTEL

The opening of the W Budapest Hotel marks a new chapter in the history of luxury hospitality in Budapest and it is with great pride that Patrizia Volpato has illuminated its spaces.

ILLUMINATING HISTORY: PATRIZIA VOLPATO AND THE REBIRTH OF THE W BUDAPEST HOTEL

With its latest collaboration, Patrizia Volpato team takes us to Budapest, a lively and elegant city, nicknamed the Paris of the East. The new jewel of W Hotels Worldwide of the Marriott chain was inaugurated on 4 July 2023 with the idea of renovating and enhancing the ancient Palazzo Dreschsler, showing a Renaissance style and lots of history.

The building, part of the UNESCO heritage and located in one of the most sumptuous streets of the city, has had various uses over the years and has hosted various realities, creating a place with multiple identities.

Elegance and refinement are certainly the watchwords for what has already won the first place among luxury hotels in Budapest. The interior design and style choices added the icing on the cake.

The uses of the spaces have changed over time, initially designed for a pension institution of the Hungarian railway transport company with a café on the ground floor, from which the building takes its name, they have become the residence of aristocrats, where on the lower floors we find the headquarters of the Hungarian National Ballet Academy.

These stratifications and evolutions of the areas tell of a progressive growth in prestige of this place and are the starting point of a renovation which found in the craftsmanship of Patrizia Volpato the perfect design solution for the luxury hotel industry.

INSPIRATION COMES FROM ART: THE BALLET CHANDELIERS

For the occasion, Patrizia Volpato created tailor-made lighting installations, the Ballerinas, the result of a creation process in Venetian workshops and inspired by the world of ballet.

The journey into the universe of dance has been translated with materials, dimensions and shapes that pay homage to the history of the building and the city of Budapest.

Patrizia Volpato’s luxury lighting guarantees a welcoming and refined atmosphere that at the same time embodies tradition and history at the W Budapest Hotel, now renovated in a modern and sophisticated style.

The design lights are sculpted in fiberglass and created by means of the traditional processing of Venetian glass which required a complex manufacturing process, similar to that required during the study and creation phase of the dancers when they develop such a precise, strong and harmonious movement.

PATRIZIA VOLPATO’S CREATIVE CHALLENGE

Just as dancers work on precision, with long and rigid training, so does Patrizia Volpato bringing an equally rigorous and refined product to interior design in Budapest.

Real pieces of art made like luxury sculptures:

designed by a famous architect, these chandeliers have been realized in four distinctive shapes with a diameter of 4 meters, a height of 70 cm and variable depths. Their concave and convex structure required the use of special molds, making it impossible to create them from standard metal sheet.

A crucial aspect of this project was the production phase which took place entirely in Italy, so as to guarantee the superior quality typical of Made in Italy creations. Despite their imposing size, the ballerinas were designed to be transported and assembled in Hungary. The mirrored ceiling, with a limited load capacity, required the use of lightweight materials, while still maintaining impeccable aesthetics even in the upper part, reflected on the ceiling.

The creation of these installations followed a meticulous process. In the production shed, a rod,  fixed to the reinforced concrete and a curved template made it possible to create the extrusion of each piece which was subsequently cut into three parts to facilitate transport, worked with stucco, sanded and painted.

The main body with the central light, a one meter diameter ceiling light, was built in metal to ensure durability and quality.

This design lighting solution was a challenge against time, but also against spaces: the very tight production times that went on until January and the inauguration of the hotel initially scheduled for April, led the Murano workshops to create a product completed in a very short time, as often happens in artistic productions before going on stage.

The result hides any effort to make room for products that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Thus the Ballerinas chandeliers embody the essence of their name even more, creating a parallelism between two artistic worlds.

Elegance, delicacy, perfection and fluidity are the characteristics that we visually attribute to the luminous installation signed by Patrizia Volpato, beautiful and refined both above and below, with a shape at the center of which we find precious glass spheres.

Beveled shapes, fiberglass and a golden color give this design object a strong statement of uniqueness. In the central part, the fire sprinklers add a degree of sophistication to the product, once again underlining the creativity and innovation of Patrizia Volpato in the panorama of luxury lighting.

Thus, the new luxury hotel in Budapest meets the refinement and ingenuity of Patrizia Volpato’s workshop, in a celebration of classical ballet, also highlighted by the interiors with walls and furnishings with curved lines that reflect the concept of movement.

It is only thanks to the great competence, passion and constant drive towards excellence of Patrizia Volpato’s artisans that such a process was possible.

ADVANCED LIGHTING: ELEGANCE AND TECHNOLOGY AT THE MARRIOTT HOTEL

Inside the Marriott Hotel, another extraordinary chandelier designed by Patrizia Volpato captures the viewer’s attention with its beauty and technological innovation.

From the stairs we can see some light installations made up of 96 glass spheres suspended at around 11 meters, anchored both to the ceiling and to the sides, creating an effect of ethereal lightness.

The lights of these chandeliers are controlled step by step, allowing an individual control of each individual sphere. This advanced system allows you to create customized light scenes, offering a unique and fascinating visual experience.

On festive occasions, the chandeliers become the real protagonists of the show, thanks to the choreographic color effects created by the LED bulbs. Using DMX technology, it is possible to program dynamic light scenarios that enrich the festive atmosphere of the hotel.

The 96 light strands are connected to patch channels via network cables, allowing a precise and flexible control. An electrical panel complete with all input drivers and patch channels allows you to prepare any aesthetic scenario from the master control unit, thus guaranteeing an impeccable lighting experience.

Patrizia Volpato’s light installations at the Marriott Hotel are not only an example of sophisticated design, but also of technological innovation.

ART AND LIGHT: THE ENCOUNTER OF TWO WORLDS IN THE HEART OF BUDAPEST

It is with great enthusiasm that Patrizia Volpato and her team members have completed an extraordinary collaboration, merging two worlds rich in shared qualities that have deep roots in tradition and innovation.

This encounter gave birth to an exclusive piece of luxury design, intended to instill a welcoming and extremely elegant atmosphere in the rooms and common spaces of the W Hotel Budapest. Every detail has been meticulously taken care of, respecting tradition and creating a refined aesthetic that reflects the prestige and uniqueness of both the brand and the hotel environments it illuminates.

Now the light of the W Hotel Budapest enriches the experience of travelers and guests in the sumptuous rooms in the heart of the Hungarian capital, playing a fundamental role in defining the space and conveying an unparalleled sense of warmth and luxury.

This collaboration not only marks a turning point in high-end interior design, but also sets a new standard of excellence and beauty, highlighting Patrizia Volpato’s ongoing commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.

The result is a transformed environment, where each designed light is not simply a decorative object, but a central piece that interacts harmoniously with the surrounding space, elevating every moment spent within it.

Once again, the undisputed quality of Italian craftsmanship, of which Patrizia Volpato has been a point of reference for years, manages to amaze by divinely illuminating any environment.
