WHO SAID THAT CLASSIC CHANDELIERS ARE OUT OF FASHION?

TRADITIONAL CHANDELIERS THAT GO BEYOND TRENDS AND ARE TIMELESS

Fashion and trends influence every area of our lives and daily routine, from the style of clothing to home furnishings.

Lighting is no exception, and, like many other sectors, it is strongly devoted to design and innovation.

Light furnishings and interior design always present new lighting perspectives but, despite the trends, there is a type of lighting fixture that never goes out of fashion: the classic chandelier.

The traditional chandelier – or rather the ceiling pendant in its most usual form – goes beyond trends and perfectly combines even with the most contemporary furnishings, as long as it is technologically advanced and up to date with the need for energy saving and sustainability.

The charm of crystals, of Murano glass and of craftsmanship wins over minimalism, opposing warmth and grandeur against the aseptic and colder character of modern minimalism, often becoming a trait d’union between tradition and contemporary styles.

THE RIGHT CLASSIC CHANDELIER FOR EVERY SPACE
TO MATCH OR BREAK UP THE STYLE

In Italy we say that style is not water, and, in our opinion, there is no phrase more apt than this.

Style is something that cannot be invented and that depends on the correct combination of different furnishing elements to visually and sensorially translate moods that can be suitable for each environment: warmth, intimacy for the living room and bedroom; cheerfulness and practicality in the children’s room, and so on.

The classic chandelier adapts to numerous environments and to different furnishing styles, often bringing together family members who may have different tastes, but who share a taste for beauty and for objects with a well-marked identity.

If the style of the house is classic, the traditional chandelier completes the atmosphere, while respecting its character. In the same way, it also perfectly harmonises in environments with a modern or contemporary design, creating a marked contrast with the predominant style and this way becomes the catalysing element of that environment.

The charm and grandeur of the classic style continues to seduce, today as in the past, for its ability to convey sensations and emotions that recall the value of artisan traditions and of quality processing that gives life to elegant and refined atmospheres.

This is why the classic chandelier is a “timeless” element.

When choosing a ceiling chandelier, it is important to consider both environment in its entirety – size, natural light, purpose of use – as well as the lighting needs of the space in which it is installed.

The entrance, for example, is one of the most representative spaces of the house – it is the first place seen when someone enters the house and therefore the choice of the chandelier – which must be naturally proportionate to the size – immediately indicates the style of the house.

The classic taste of a chandelier with crystal pendants or of a Venetian chandelier does not imply, as we have seen, the choice of a decor of the same style, but they can easily be a “breaking element” compared to more modern and design furnishings and architecture.

This type of contrast becomes very characterising in the living room area where, with a sofa having minimalist lines, you can match lighting fixtures that have elements of craftsmanship, such as the Venezia collection , which offers chandeliers and pendant lights made with a traditional fringe in Murano glass beads and crystal rods, entirely hand-sewn. The warmth of these lighting fixtures creates an aesthetic harmony that is a perfect combination with the predominant furnishing style.

The same goes for the lounge area and for the table chandelier, the point where the family gathers and which accompanies moments of family conviviality or with friends.

VENETIAN CHANDELIERS, CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS AND
MURANO GLASS CHANDELIERS, FOR A TIMELESS CLASSIC TASTE

If, as we have seen, the classic chandelier is a lighting fixture that harmonises well with any furnishing style and catalyses the gaze, it is clear that the choice of size and materials is essential for transforming a common chandelier into a luxury chandelier.

Firstly, the care of the processing, starting from the structure and the galvanic finishes, then moving to the decorative elements and the handcrafted Murano glass or crystal diffusers.

At Patrizia Volpato, the uniqueness given by the craftsmanship is one of the most identifying and referable elements of the brand: craftsmanship characterises all – or almost all of – the collections. The Murano glass elements, the hand-pulled crystal rods of the Cristalli collection , as well as the precious beads of the fringes of the Venezia collection  and all of the elements in Venetian glass and crystal of the other collections are processed directly in the workshops by Venetian master glass-makers, following the ancient techniques (LINK PVS 6 – MURANO GLASS OF LIGHTING: UNIQUENESS AND PRECIOUSNESS) passed down over the centuries, from generation to generation.

The designs of the various pendant lights start from the classic Venetian chandelier – reproposed with innovation in the Intrecci collection – in which Murano glass is presented in different colours and in its more traditional form – to then become enriched with modern details like in the Vela collection, which offers glass plates with processed edges as well as traditional Murano croziers, or as in Glace  with its blown glass or hammered Murano glass chandeliers with a seventies design.

This “revisited classic” is a typical example of the respect for traditional processing and of the marriage with modernity because the design – which recalls to the atmosphere of Venice and of its lagoon – is accompanied by latest-generation technology and constant attention to sustainability needs.
